According to my software vendor, CadLink (sign making software) the Aladdin HASP works with Win 7 x64. I tried to find updated drivers for it but when I search it says I have the latest driver and the software is working properly.
I will try disabling the anti virus and see what happens, but this will take time and it doesn't always happen the same way.

The following is a log of what I've done and learned:
Disabled Vipre Anti-Virus 8:25 AM.
Woke up computer 9:25 AM everything started as it should.
Stopped using computer 9:45 AM.
Woke up computer 11:45 AM initially the mouse moved properly then froze after about 30 sec. when I double clicked an icon. Waited about 2 minutes and the mouse unfroze.
Conclusion disabling Vipre did not eliminate problem. Checked Event Viewer no entries after 8:23 AM so mouse hang up didn’t cause an event.
Enabled Vipre 12:08 PM
Unplugged Aladdin HASP 12:09 PM.
Stopped using computer 12:10 PM.
Woke up computer at 2:15 PM everything started as it should.
Will delete Aladdin HASP driver before plugging it back into the USB port so new driver will be loaded incase something is messed up in the driver.
Plugged the HASP in and three new drivers were loaded:

SafeNet Inc. HASP Key
SafeNet Inc. Sentinel HASP Key
SafeNet Inc. USB Key

Make sure to tell us what happens next.

Also, are you sure you fully disabled your AV. Some of them have multiple processes and can start themselves, even if disabled in the startup tab of msconfig. The best thing to do is remove the program completely, and use any cleanup tools provided by the AV maker. This will insure no conflict is taking place.

Pretty sure it was disabled as I clicked on "Disable till I manually restart"
I've used Vipre for about a year on XP and it has been the best behaved Anti-Virus I've ever used. Fairly minimal impact on the computer and you can control scans well. Even when doing a Deep Scan you're able to continue doing things except for heavy computing without noticeable slowdown.

Will continue to update my findings.

Okay. Sounds like it should have been fully disabled. I just keep reliving the nightmare that is McAfee over and over. McAfee haunts my dreams.

EDIT: probably should clarify that McAfee is harder to disable and/or remove than any piece of malware I have ever seen.

Continuing my log:
Stopped using computer 2:52 PM
Woke up computer 5:01 PM initially the mouse moved but wouldn't highlight icons then froze after about 20 sec. Waited 4:30 and the mouse moved properly. So much for reloading SafeNet drivers. Will try again unplugging the Aladdin HASP to verify that this is causing the problem.

Many times disabling an antivirus and/or firewall program does not work. Parts of it are still loaded and running even when disabled. Uninstalling using the manufaturer's uninstall tool is the proper and effective method. You can always reinstall it.

How a program ran on XP has zero to do with how it will run on Win 7. Win 7 is a totally different OS, nothing like XP. I could give you a quote on why this is so if you would like.

Carl I understand what you're saying I know that win 7 and XP are two different animals. My reference to the way Vipre worked in XP was to show that it wasn't like McAfee or Norton which take over your computer and muck up the works and are impossible to remove.

I unplugged the HASP again waited two hours and everything worked as it should i.e. the computer instantly worked as it should. So now I've confirmed that the HASP has a problem with something installed. As you suggest I will uninstall Vipre and see what happens. I'll keep you all informed. Thanks for your assistance.
