Properties - Location - Move...??

I've been really annoyed at the regenerating Searches and Favorites folders that always pop up under my user folder, and I saw on a site that one potential fix was to click under Location and move it to somewhere else.

So I figured I'd send Favorites to Temp. Simple enough. Out of sight, removed whenever I clear the temp folder, etc. Instead, it changes the name of the Favorites folder to Temp in my user folder, and sends Temp files there. - The complete opposite of what I expected it to do and what I wanted it to do.

Confused, I click to send Temp back to OS (C drive). Now, it replaces that, and I've got a duplicate OS under my user folder, as well as under Computer where it's supposed to be. It doesn't give me the option to delete it, it doesn't register as a shortcut, and if I try to move it somewhere, it says it can only create a shortcut, but doesn't remove it from the user folder. I would think logically that if I would click to move that so it's stored in Computer, it would either revert back to normal, or duplicate Computer into my user folder, or worse, tell me I can't without deleting the other C drive section...and if I click "restore default", the option it gives me is C:\Users\(username\Favorites...which I certainly don't want my OS (C:) stuff being directed to.

I have no restore points to back my computer up and just revert back to what it was yesterday, and I certainly don't want to restore my computer back to factory settings and need to re-install dozens upon dozens of programs. It doesn't give me the option to Hide it, because after all, it's not just some folder, it's the C drive - and even so, I have my computer set to show all hidden objects anyway.

How in the world do I remove this duplicate as well as revert my Favorites/Temp folder back to just the empty stupid waste of space Favorites folder? I'm ok with keeping that ridiculous thing there if it means the other stuff will go back to what it was before I started screwing around with things. I just don't want to do anything that'll ruin my computer or wipe it or whatever.

Can anybody PLEASE help me?

Hey guys, I have a similar problem to Caspid (https://www.sevenforums.com/900775-post60.html). I clicked on the Favorites folder, tried to send it to Temp, which replaced the Temp folder, and then I clicked on that duplicate Temp folder and tried to move it to OS (c drive) and now I've got a duplicate of that in place of the Temp duplicate, which is in place of Favorites. If I click on that duplicate OS, and go to Restore default, it shows up as C:\Users\(user-name)\Favorites. The Favorites folder regenerated eventually, housing some temp files in it, and I deleted it, and it hasn't shown back up, but now that I just did a Disk Cleanup, it registered nothing under the temporary files, and when I go under the C drive and the TRUE Temp folder, it has nothing in it.

The same applies for how Caspid mentioned that it's only showing up under the one instance, but not showing up under Computer > C > Users > (Username)...nor is the Temp/Favorites folder.

What concerns me:

1) Are my temp files being stored somewhere where they aren't going to be deleted by disk cleanup or anything and just build up?

2) Is there any way of removing this duplicate OS without screwing things up?

3) Since that Favorites folder hasn't come back yet at all with or without the temp files in it, should I be concerned?

That tutorial at the beginning of this thread is confusing me because it seems like it's for when you're missing something that should be there (like My Documents), but that doesn't apply to me, because the only thing I'm missing is Favorites, which I wanted to get rid of, and my main issue is this duplicate C drive thing on top of not being sure if the Temp folder is working right. At this point, I don't even care if I end up having to revert back to having a regenerating empty Favorites folder, if it means the duplicate OS will be gone and the Temp folder will work. The Favorites folder is obviously just a stupid cosmetic thing in comparison to two major components of the computer itself...but I don't have a clue how I should approach this or if there's anything I can do (short of wiping the whole computer and starting fresh, which I definitely DON'T want to do).

I'm still confused as to what my options are, if any, to fix the duplicate OS and (now completely missing and not regenerating) Temp/Favorites situation. The past few times I've checked the Temp folder located in Computer:\OS (C), it's showing up empty, so I guess that means my temporary files are being stored somewhere else, and the steps in that post you directed me to don't seem to apply to when this happens with a drive, just folders like My Music and whatnot.

What can I do?

Hello Etcetera, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It may be easier to fix this by to creating a new administrator account , then copy all of the contents of the old user account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders (including hidden AppData folder) into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folder. After everything checks out ok, you can delete the old user account while logged in the new user account.

If I do that, I retain all the previously installed programs and whatnot, and the new admin account will have the Temp folder working back to normal and won't have the duplicate C drive in there? Also, wouldn't it be risky to delete that user account seeing as in it's folder, the C drive is listed, which would mean effectively deleting the C drive from the computer itself?

You're programs and C dirve will not be affected by this.

Creating the new administrator account will be to test to see if everything works properly in it, or if it's your system.

Only if everything checks out ok would you then delete the old user account using the Control Panel - User Accounts option.
