Hi;
Like many others I was having a problem with the screensaver not starting, and the monitors not powering down (had the same problem in Vista)
After going through a series of tests using msconfig and getting no results, I started to un-hook hardware. The first thing I un-plugged was my Contour Shuttle Pro v2 NLE editing controller.
BINGO!
The screensavre started right away and the monitors will now power down.
No solution for the moment except to keep it un-plugged from the USB port until I need to use it.
My hardware:Asus P5E-VM-HDMI mobo, core duo E6750 2.66GHz, 4GB RAM, Nvida geForce 9500 GT and 2x Dell 2209WA monitors.

A trouble report was sent to Contour, and I hope they will respond positivly.
I hope this helps someone else.
Cheers,
Hal Davey

Check your input devices!

I had the same problem of windows 7 not shutting off the monitor or going into screen saver. After reading HalD's post I checked my input devices, I found that my wireless mouse was the culprit.

I was using a Microsoft wireless laser mouse model #1058, I swapped it out for a logitech wireless laser and now all is working as it should.

I find it odd that a Microsoft product does not work with it's latest OS.

I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and a wireless Logitech TrackMan Wheel, and I'm having the same problem with the screen saver NOT coming on. When I had Vista Ultimate 32-bit I was having the same problem, and was able to fix the problem by removing some services (I don't recall which ones) from starting at boot. I've tried the same with 7 64-bit but I wasn't able to find any services to disable that solved the problem.

As soon as I unplug the USB plug for the receiver, after the set time the screen saver comes on just fine. No solution from Microsoft nor Logitech. FRUSTRATING!

You have to yell at Logitech or any other device manufacture because there drivers are not letting Windows sleep or do its power saving stuff. Not something Microsoft can solve.

Screensaver not activated

I have the same issue and have tracked it down to my wireless Keyboard/Mouse which is a Microsoft product (Wireless Multimedia Keyboard 1.1 & Standard Optical Mouse). I've used these on my XP system and didn't have any problems with the screen saver. If I unplug the receiver, the screen saver starts fine. But leaving it plugged in..Nothing. I've downloaded Microsoft's latest drivers that they have posted, but still doesn't help. I really hate to have to get rid of the keyboard and mouse since it serves its purpose fine for what it's intended. I share the same frustration as an earlier post that an MS product doesn't work with it's OS. :sarc:

And other one with the MS wireless keyboard/mouse as the culprit. Thanks to you wonderful people here the offender has been charged.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate with a MS wireless keyboard and mouse. As soon as I unplug the USB connection for the "receiver", the screensaver and monitor power off feature functions.

Awaiting a fix please????????

Thanks very much.

I finally gave up on my wireless Logitech mouse and went back to using my wired Logitech TrackMan Wheel mouse (same as the wireless one) and I no longer have any problems with the screen saver not coming on.

I never meant to imply that the problem I was having was Microsoft's fault. I was just looking for advice and a solution, not where to lay blame. I just really appreciate a forum like this where people can come for help to find possible solutions that we otherwise might not find. Thank you to all you folks that have helped me out as I'm not a computer wizard - just an apprentice in training. ;-)

Fix for me was going to MS to get the latest driver for MS Wireless Keyboard 3000. That solved all the problems relating to screensaver and power down.

Screen Saver Won't Start in Win7

I was having that problem with 64bit Win7. I disabled the group manager from MS office 2007 in the msconfig start up options and my problem seems to be solved.

For what it's worth, I am running Win 7 Ent on a HP8510p laptop on an HP docking station and have not been able to get the screensaver to work ever since unless it was undocked. Obviously this led me to the numerous plugged in USB devices one of them being a Belkin f8e837 multimedia keyboard. I looked it up on the Windows 7 Compatibility site which stated info coming soon. Swapping it with a basic USB keyboard resolved my issue.

Only Fix I could find...

Went to the local Target last week anc pickeup a Logitech EX100 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse for $19.00 and everything is fine. Months spent trying to get my MS Keyboard and mouse to work. Should have saved my sanity months ago. If you're having the same problem, suggest buying this inexpensive solution. Noticed at a BJ's wholesale club yesterday they're selling the same combo pack, same price.

:D

I had the same problem with a Microsoft wireless keyboard / mouse in Windows 7

Windows 7 loads apparently a standard driver. After having downloaded the correct driver from Microsoft works my screensaver perfect.
