For some reason my computer's just not turning on. The motherboard light is on, showing the PSU is working. But when I turn on the PC it just doesn't boot or even start at all.
Sorry for the vague description, just really unsure what the problem could be.
Do you get any beeps when you attempt to switch it on, and if you do, what do you hear?
After each step described below, power your system up and note if there is any sign of life. Please report back with your results.
1) Check and recheck ALL motherboard connections, especially the power and front panel cables. If your motherboard has onboard graphics capability, remove your card (if you have one fitted) and use that instead.
2) Unplug the optical and HDD drives from the board and disconnect their power cables.
3) Reconnect the drives, one at a time. Repeat until all drives are reconnected.
4) If you removed a graphics card, reconnect it. Don't forget the auxiliary power connector(s) if needed.
The light on the MB doesn't mean the PSU is working properly. It just means there is "some" power there. You need a professional to actually test the power supply, or do it yourself with a tester available cheaply on eBay. You could also test it by temporarily swapping it out. The PSU is the most likely culprit.
When I switch it on there's no response what so ever (no fans booting up or anything) and the only thing that indicates power is the red LED on the motherboard.
