"restart" wont work? Yet shutdown will?

This is quite possible a hardware thing with my machine but i am not sure so hope someone can help.

I took the plunge yesterday and got Windows 7, and without botherign to dual-boot i formatted my HG and installed Win7. No problems there, all running here now fine.

However i do have an odd issue with "restarting", if i "restart" the pc from menu, the PC does its thing even restarts with the HP bios screen. But after the bios screen nothing...... black screen, and no activity at all on HD LED. The same happens if i use the "reset" hardware button on front of PC. Its wierd though as if i totally power down PC or do "shutdown" from menu. When i restart it restarts fine and win7 loads up just normal.

It feels like a hardware thing to me, BUT i ask here to you guys as it has never done this with any other OS (XP, Vista or Linux), in those "restart" worked just fine? So although it seems to be a hardware thing, someone its only happening with Windows 7 ?

Would appriecate some assistance please, thanks..

This would be a BIOS problem. Check to see if you manufacturer has release a BIOS update for your motherboard. If not, then download the one you have now and just flash over it to repair it.

before updating your BIOS, go to bios menu and in the LAST menu, select "Load Optimal Defaults" option and hit F10 to save and exit..

try this time if it works fine.. else go for BIOS update...

Good advice, more safe than a flash
