Windows 7: Need help - boot issues and general running

Need help - boot issues and general running

I'm pretty much a novice so I don't really know what is going on. I have an Advent Roma 2000, when I try to start it up the initial loading screen comes up but then after about 4/5 seconds of doing nothing it loses power, cuts out and restarts pretty much immediately. If I press f12 on start up it loads as normal though and just gives me the option to start the computer up as normal. That's the first problem.

Once it does get started it sometimes will run perfectly, but other times will constantly freeze and run incredibly slowly. Usually anything I'm running will freeze for 1/2 secs every 7/8 seconds or so. This includes any programme I'm running, media player, word, ie. I have no idea what the problem is, have tried destructive format which usually seems to solve the freezing issue for a few hours but does nothing to the boot issue.

Any suggestions of what this could be or how to fix it would be great.

Dosnt sound like a virus but if your computer is running slowly maybe it could be. I would do a virus scan, and if that didnt work i would reinstall windows if you still have the CD.

Windows 10 Pro x64

Hi steve welcome to the forums, could you please fill out your system specs a little bit more completely? If you don't know them then use Speccy: Speccy - System Information - Free Download

Are you overclocking at all? Normally, power failure on boot means that your PC is trying to draw more power than is available. As your PC is a laptop, if you ARE overclocking, then I suggest that you immediately stop!

Also, does this issue occur when the machine is on batteries and plugged in? or just one or the other?

Hi, I have done a virus scan which has come up with nothing, and have also reinstalled windows, no luck. Have filled out more details in my profile now and am not overclocking to my knowledge, the laptop ran fine for 3/4 months before this happened, but can't specify something that I was doing which made it change. We did have a power cut which I had read can effect things, but can't see this being the case with a laptop that has battery power. The issue is exactly the same on the mains or running off the battery.

Test your RAM using memtest86 for 5-6 passes or overnight to stress test. Swap RAM sticks.

Test your HD using maker's full diag/repair CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

See if your local shop will try another power supply of correct voltage for you to know for sure whether it is Power Supply problem. If not Power Supply, it may be the DC jack inside the case.
