Windows 7: Choose defaults for this program checkboxes grayed out

Still not answered??

Argh ! A year old and still not answered?

Dzom gives a great description of how to change default players....but THATS NOT THE QUESTION!

At least it's not my reading of the question...I just want to turn off WMP being the default for mp4's....I DONT want to switch default players.

The question is...Why the heck are the checkboxes grayed out???

I am the administrator (and only user) one this machine.

If there is some reason to gray this out (cant imagine why) then MS needs to give us a description of what the problem is...

So the question do we get the checkboxes NOT greyed out?

64-bit Windows 10 Pro

Hello Random, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yeah, it's been a while, but we can't solve a problem if the OP doesn't reply back.

I do not believe that you are able to ungray the items, but there are workarounds to get the job done. You could use the tutorial below to unassociate .mp4 file extensions to no longer have a default program for them.

File Extension Type - Unassociate

Hope this helps,
