Are you able to access the BIOS setup? (Usually by pressing a key like F2, DEL, F12) In your BIOS settings there may be an option for Quick or Quiet boot which skips the hardware info and possibly the mfr splash screen.

If you see a prompt saying something like "Press F2 to enter setup" that's the time you should hit F8 to access Safe Mode. Regardless, you need to hit F8 BEFORE you see the "Starting Windows" screen.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1

If it is a USB keyboard, you may have to enable legacy support, or whatever your BIOS will call it, so the keyboard is accessible before the OS loads.

Vista and now 7 in 32 and 64 bit.

HJow about switching off the computer, from the power, whilst the OS dstop is in use?
On the next boot this should bring you up to the boot menu options, which includes safe mode.

Windows 7 64 bit

Hello everyone,

This may sound very trivial, but make sure you verify how to press F8. I was spinning my wheels trying to get my laptop in Safe Mode before realizing that I needed to press <Fn><F8> in order for the O/S to acknowledge an F8 request. Again, sounds very trivial, but I'd hate for others to run into the same problem.
