    Adjust Window Controls

In XP there was a control panel applet that I could access via a right click on the desktop where I could change the characteristics of Windows Controls, like the size of the buttons in the title bar, the width of the scroll bars etc.

The same applet had sheets for the Screen Saver and display characteristics etc

Is there an equivalent in Win 7, if so where can I find it. I fear the worse - like they took it away.

I don't really need this Aero stuff, I'm sure you could get rid of it in Vista in the Personalize applet, but its another thing I cant find.

    thanks pjd

Sorry, MS have tucked away quite a few of these useful features. Bt, I think what you are looking for is:
Right click the dektop and select personalize.
    Select Windows colour (Middle bottom)
Select "advanced appearance settings" (Blue text)

Thanks davehc, but no need to apologise mate, unless you did it.

Getting rid of Aero? Yes, it's very possible.
    • Right-click your desktop > 'Personalize'
    • Scroll down until you see 'Basic and High Contrast Themes'. Under that, click on any theme to disable Aero transparency and glass effects.

    Hope this helps.

Too easy. Rather than write out the whole thing myself. Go here and select a theme other than a Aero theme.

    Theme - Change or Save

Thanks Guys - now if I can just install the old Zune theme I'll be a happy man,

Damn its totally different in Weven, but I found another one more to my liking - Infiniti, without its silly picture. I like solid dark grey as my background.

It'll do for now. I wish MS would stop wasting time on appearance and spend more time on function.
