    Only 2.25GB Usable?

I have an Acer Aspire laptop with 2.5GB of Ram. System properties lists the 2.5GB of ram but only 2.25GB usable. I had Vista on this laptop without this conflict. The bios settings are very basic, nothing that looks like it has to be changed. The only difference that I see is Vista was 32 bit and Windows 7 is 64 bit.

W7 comes in both x86 and x64 forms, usually the ram amount that is missing is used by the graphics card, and is not counted as RAM.

Do you notice a performance drop with 256Mb RAM missing?

I don't notice any performance difference. But in doing some research it very well may be my video card. I have a Geforce 9800GTX that itself only has 512mb of memory.

    which model is it?
there are some laptops with the memory capped to either 4gb, 3gb and so on
and was this vista x86 SP1?
as it should show the same thing as win 7 (total ram with total usable...)

Not sure mate, youve done a fresh install correct?
    Usually this solves the problem.
