No.....waiting until I decide if I am going to upgrade to Win 7, I got the Ram becasue Someday I will and I'll have the same exact RAM that I am currently running 2 BG in my system.

If I upgrade to Win 7 I'll add the other 2 GB either before the install or after.

You would probably see a performance improvement if you upgrade to 64 bit (that is when you have 4 gigs of ram). But you must know that you will need 64 bit drivers for all your hardware for it to work properly. As your computer is home built you will have a hard time finding 64 bits drivers for all you hardware.

I would suggest keeping to a 32 bit system but also install the extra ram. Sure you will only get about 3.35 gig usable out of 4 gig but the extra ram will also give you a performance boost. I would also recommend upgrading to windows 7 as Xp is very out dated (it was designed in the 90s).

Thank you for explaining that is what I was concerned with. I will use the 32 bit and not the 64 bit when I upgrade. The main reason I wanted to know this is now I can buy OEM and save $$$

Good to see that you go it sorted. If you have any problems on the way post it here on the forum.

Btw when you put windows 7 on your system you not can do an "upgrade" but only a clean install. A clean install is where the hard drive/partition where windows xp was on, is wiped and is replaced with windows 7. So any program and data on that hard drive/partition is wiped.

So back up any impotent data and prepare to reinstall any programs you need.

Yes I know this, When I say upgrade I do not mean the upgrade version but I mean upgrade to win 7. I realize and perfer to do a fresh install. I may even do a dual boot and keep XP on another drive.
