Windows 7 Ultimate(32) wont boot because it thinks its Vista

I have Windows 7 Ultimate(32bit) running on a laptop and about a month ago the boot time went from 1:30 to like 5 minutes, which I found unacceptable.

I foolishly tried playing with msconfig and changed from selective startup to normal startup. It now tries to boot the old Vista 32 that Windows 7 was upgraded from.

I can not access startup repair options as every time I select them it just flashes and goes right back to the screen. I cant boot into Vista as it is no longer there and just goes to a black screen.

It only sees the Vista install and none of the system restore points even when I boot from the Windows 7 disc? Im out of ideas on how to fix the boot, please help!?!?

P.S. I believe it may have had something to do with the "use original boot configuration" option in msconfig?
