W7 vs Vista

The main difference between right from the start is the introduction of the MinWin kernel which essentially is starting off with a new core element. MS finally realized Windows was getting too large and slow with Vista and took steps to 7's core redesigned into the modular form. On the basically Vista ready system here 7 takes the lead every time!

One way to get around that trouble is call MS sales and buy a upgrade vista disc $29+ shipping that contains all the updates. I did that with XP and vista and was back to a quick install. I'm sure the same thing will happen to 7 after many security updates. An original vista disc is nearly impossible to install. It's really worth the $29.

Build 7127 is faster every which way than Vista Ultimate with SP2 installed on ANY machine I've tested it on.

Whilst Vista (and of course the hardware) have improved considerably in the last 2 years Windows 7 has been able to run on lower grade hardware right from the start.

I still have to use XP from time to time due to some legacy hardware and applications for which NO Vista or W7 upgrade will be coming - but I can do this either in "Compatability mode" or as a separate Virtual machine using Vmware or Virtual Box.

I only keep the Vista system around (as an Image) so that I can get the W7 "Upgrade" options when the final version is released.

Time to move on -- Vista is likely to be phased out as soon as possible now W7 has been proved to be stable and popular.
