    I didn't turn it off in services yet, however when I look at programs and features, its already unchecked?

    Its the second item down, "Indexing service".

    If you hover the mouse pointer over the indexing service in programs and features you'll see this is an older service from previous versions of windows, not the present service. Windows search is the present service.

    Thank Gary,
    Unchecked windows search and restarted, as expected it removes all search ability as well. Can't help but feel thats a big step backward as I use the search. Probably why ms combines the 2.
    I've turned it back on and will just remove all the items I can from the index ui.

    Yes, I was afraid that might be the result. Removing stuff from the CP is probably the best way.
