Hey i too am having the same problems......... could you also tell me the fix...... :)..... i've been going mad for the solution.....the only workaround i had till now was creating a new account and copying your files and settings to it...... but that also didnt work well....... (this problem is only found with ppl who have upgraded from 70** to rc)......
I'm currently facing the same problem. I use windows 7 and i have recently modify the registry to optimize the shutdown speed. And now the search box is not working. Can you please tell me exactly what you change in the registry for it to work?
I am having the same problem, and would love to know what you did in the registry for a solution.
See if this helps you out,
Windows Search - Turn On or Off
I tried that :S
No result, I'm attempting to look through the registry but I have no idea what to do in it. I also have another user account to test stuff out
I found this answer on a similar thread
It worked for meI ran into the same problem over the past couple days with Windows 7 RC and finally dug into it some more.
1. End Task on EXPLORER.EXE from Task Manager.
2. Start the Registry Editor
3. Look for the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\{EF87B4CB-F2CE-4785-8658-4CA6C63E38C6}\TopViews\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}
4. Rename the key so it looks like the following:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\{EF87B4CB-F2CE-4785-8658-4CA6C63E38C6}\TopViews\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}.BACKUP
5. From Task Manager click on File | New Task (Run) and type EXPLORER.EXE and hit return.
6. Now try your search from the Start Menu again.
If the above process doesn't work for you, you can always put it back the way it was by reversing the process above.

jonny,
Have you any idea as to what you did to cause the problem in the first place?
No idea what caused the problem, but then I has n00b skillz when it comes to computers :P
I was making some alterations to my netbook though, I don't think they are related.
I was installing wubi to see if I liked Ubuntu and it said that the metalink couldn't be downloaded and therefore neither could the .ISO
