windows 7 file permissions messed up

I need to run backup of my c:\users but I'm getting access denied messages when I attempt to access certain subdirs. My user is in the admin group. If I rightclick on c:\users and go to properties>security>edit>add and then add myself and check "Full control." After hitting apply it goes through and tries to apply the settings but fails 12-15 times saying, "an error occurred while applying secutity info to: c:\users\default\appdata\local\..." It goes on to say, "access is denied."

    What's up?

Please read the tutorials on permissions.
If access is still denied, it is to protect the system.

There are going to be directories you will not have access to, those are all Junctions points for comparability.
Skip those directories. You should not be changing there permissions if you do your backup is going to bloat so large...

THanks for the replies. I also have the same problems with c:\cygwin - I can't do a backup on it.
