Unchangeable program association

Greetings,

Somehow .txt extension got associated with the Registry Editor and it cannot be changed. Namely, I click on Change program, select the editor I want to use, but the association does not change. Furthermore, the Always use the selected program... checkbox is disabled.

Any suggestion how to overcome this would be highly appreciated.

You must be careful with the registry editor or you may not be able to boot
If you know when the problem happened, perform a system restore from a few days before. That will correct the problem

Hello Camoscio, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might download and merge the txt option in the tutorial below to see if it may be able to fix this for you. It will restore all of the default association and settings for txt files.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I used Home | Default Programs Editor to remove the association altogether. After that I was able to recreate it associating .txt with gvim.exe. However, the Always use the selected program... checkbox remains disabled
