If it is your "Active" partition, then it contins the MBR and that's from where the system is booted. You better leave it alone, else your system might not boot any more.

One reason to like it is that it conveniently places the Repair My Computer console normally only available on the DVD or Repair CD on the F8 Advanced Boot Tools menu. Thus you can repair your laptop Startup while at school.

I used this tutorial to create a bootable restore partition to do the dirty work if I should ever find it necessary when I don't have my original install disks with me:

    Recovery Partition - Create

Don't overlook this caveat if you desire to create the recovery partition:
It has come to my attention that Windows has an annoying habit of corrupting the Recovery Partition, especially after Disk Cleanups and Defrags. To get around this Open Disk Management (type it into the start menu) and right click your Recovery Partition, remove the letter so that windows cant see it any more. (Don't worry it will still boot, this just stops Windows from writing files to it)

    Hello akbagaria,
The 100 MB partition serves two functions -

    1) It holds the Boot Manager Code and the Boot Configuration Database.

    2) It also reserves space for the startup files required by BitLocker so that if you ever decide to encrypt your system drive using BitLocker, you wont have to repartition your system drive to make it possible

If you are sure you will never use Bitlocker on your system drive you can install windows without the 100 MB partition using a "disk managemaent utility" (like the command line Diskpart Utility) but for 100 MB is it really worth it ????
