    Windows 7 Random Lag?

    Hey guys,

Sometimes when I switch songs in my media player (Windows Media Player, Zune) I'll have to wait a few seconds for my computer to load the new song. On my previous system I would run XP SP3, on older parts, without this problem.

This is not the only time I'll experience hang times. Sometimes when I'm moving through Windows Explorer quickly I'll open a folder and click a subdirectory and then have to wait for the operating system to actually process my clicks. I can always hear my hard drive speed up, and then a few seconds later it'll bring me into the folder I clicked.

I frequently run disk defrags and recently checked my hard disk for errors, without finding any. I have a ton of space left on both of my hard drives (C: being a 300GB WD 10,000 RPM raptor and D: being a 500GB WD 5,200 RPM storage drive).

I'm not sure what could be causing the problems. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. It's legit, not cracked or hacked or any such nonsense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is Superfetch enabled - if yes, the lag should disappear when you handle the same thing a second time - provided you have enough RAM.

Sorry, I thought they were in my signature. Apparently signatures have been reset since I registered, or something like that? Maybe I'm just retarded.

    Intel Core i7 860 (2.80 GHz 8 CPUs)
    4096MB RAM DDR3
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600)
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 (2664MB)
    ASUS P55D ATX Motherboard

I'll attach a detailed DxDiag.txt file if the above list doesn't provide the necessary info for the tech-savy members. :)

Since I built the system it looks like Superfetch has been automatically enabled. The services.msc command in run tells me that Superfetch starts working on system start (more specifically each time a user logs on, the only user on my PC being me). This leads me to think that maybe Superfetch doesn't have enough memory to work properly? I'm not exactly sure how the service is programmed to work, or how efficient it is in terms of RAM usage, but I thought up to this point I'd be set with 4GB.

I've been considering increasing my RAM for a while now. I'm a gamer and a [young] developer, so this PC has pretty much been my life for the past two years. I built it to last much longer than two years, so, I'm really hoping I dont have to deal with reformatting my HDD or reinstalling the OS to fix the problem. My friend told me he had a similar problem with Windows 7 actually locking up for five or ten minutes at a time, after which time the computer would function normally until the next lock up. He reformatted and hasn't had a problem since, supposedly.

I don't want to deal with all that shit.

Well,if you don't want to format your HDD,use a program as Advance system care, and see if the problem is solved,if is not,try reinstall.

You can check the part of the RAM that is used by Superfetch for caching. Go to Resource Monitor > Memory tab - the dark blue part in the colored bar is the cached part. It should look somewhat like this picture where nearly all of the available RAM was used for caching:
