Windows 7: Web Icons Not There???

OP means "Original Poster"
This is the same as was posted earlier by Ztrucker but the answer you need is here, OK it is for Vista but will work in Windows 7:
The default system icon is displayed for Internet shortcut files when you use Internet Explorer 7 on a Windows XP SP2-based or Windows Vista-based computer
I did not mean to offend when I mentioned English not being your first language but much of your phraseology is quite difficult to understand for example "If I saw a webpage via any browser application I get and icon that looks like the system can tell what it is usually."
Now if you read this to yourself I think you will agree it is a bit confusing. May I suggest that you type out your posts in something like Wordpad to start with, then read it carefully and try to imagine you are one of us reading the thread for the first time. When it makes sense to you then copy and paste and post it. Just a friendly suggestion that might help you gt a better reponse.

I must say that I still don't know what the original poster (OP) is requesting. I will be watching to see if I can help.

Well LaybackBear I might leave this one with you as I am off for a week long autumn break tomorrow morning and my wife has banned me from even going near a laptop so I shall be suffering with the DT's by about Thursday!

I have it. When he saves a webpage shortcut to his desktop, it should show the icon of his default browser. If his default icon is FF, it should show the generic FF icon (mine is Opera).

Suggest you rebuild your icon cache:

Icon Cache - Rebuild

If no fix, try rebuilding the thumbnail cache:

Thumbnail Cache - Clear and Reset

If still no fix, try making IE your default browser:

Click on Tools from the toolbar in Internet Explorer 8 and select Internet Options. Then select the Programs tab from the top of the window to access the default browser settings. You can even choose to be alerted if Internet Explorer is not your default browser. Click OK to save your changes.

See if you know have IE icons showing. You can now make FF your default browser again:

Tools menu> Options> Advanced tab> General tab> Check mark next to: Always chech to see if Firefox is your default browser on startup> Check now

If none of this appears to work, confirm by saving a new shortcut. If still generic icon, try System File Checker:

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Let us know how it works out. A Guy
