Win 7 shuts down on it's own.

Hello, I've been running Win & RC for a few days and seem to run into a ongoing problem. I think this is where I may want to start this thread.

Several times I have left win 7 running for a half hour or more (inactive) and it hibernates. If longer then 30 mins. I have to push soft reset, which wakes it up. However on 2 occasions I left it for several hours. It seemed to have shut the system completely down, again upon restart it went directly to Win 7 (running dual boot system w/ Win XP) and was herky. After a few minutes the screen became distorted and I had to preform a hard shutdown, as nothing would respond.

    Any thoughts?

Are you getting any of the following:

    a) Errors in Event Viewer.

    b) Blue Screen of Death.

    c) Memory dumps.

If so, can you post back with what they are and we'll go from there. Are you using native Win 7 graphics drivers or the ones from the manufacturer of your card?

I performed a clean install (old Win Xp machine) to Windows 7 profesional and it seems that my PC is sutting down automatically (My vife seems to have the same problem on her notebook).
what can I do or change to fix this?

Control panel -> hardware and sound -> power options -> edit plan settings.
Then check off the put the computer to sleep.

Thats right. Does the problem still occur?

Is it a laptop or a desktop?

My Machine is a desktop and my wife's one is a laptop. I will apply the changes to the laptop as well and monitor.
If the problem persists, I will advise.
    thank you very much....
