    "File is in Use" errors

Hope this is the right place to post this...

I'm using Windows 7 Professional. I have a lot of graphics files, animations and such to keep organized. Frequently I'll need to move or rename something and am confronted the error message Action Cannot Be Completed, File Is in Use. I have nothing else opening that I can see. Is it the indexing? Sometimes it will even ask for an administrator password for my own files which it won’t accept, despite the fact that I'm the administrator. I can make a new copy and delete the old one, but that’s a cumbersome workaround. Very puzzling. I love Windows 7, but this is very frustrating and a problem I haven’t encountered before.

    Thanks for any ideas...

Welcome to Seven Forums Andacar. Try this as a start. Download Lock Hunter:

    Lock Hunter

Install Lock Hunter. This will add an entry to your right click context menu called

    What is locking this file?

Next time you get the in use error, right click the file, and choose What is locking this file? It will tell you what process is locking the file. this may help us figure out why it is happening. Or, you can use Lock Hunter to unlock the file, and move it. A Guy
