You can delete them but why not back up some of the more useful ones to a non-system partition or external media? Would save you a re-download if you wanted to reinstall win7 or install them on a different machine.

    yes you can delete it..
but i think is more safe if you save it.. maybe one days, you have to install or repair it from the application setup. like bill said.

I always organize my downloads into various folders that are indicative of their nature so if I decide to clean house I can always recall what the download was for despite its often cryptic nomenclature.

Organize your downloads as they occur and you'll never have to ask the question regarding what you should delete. :)

The point of the newly-popular Downloads folder is to archive your tools and installers for later use, including in possible reinstalls.

However with built-in drive imaging, reinstalls are really no longer necessary, so judge what the chances are you'd need to go find all of those installers again.

I refer to the Downloads folder many times every day for tools and installers I use. It is backed up along with my other important User files.

Excellent and then in a month you can go thru them and find that you can delete at least 90% since you really don't need them anymore.

Backups are a marvelous thing. I always empty the downloads folder.

I use Win 7 Backup and Restore.

Funny you mention that because I keep a copy of most of my Downloads on my USB stick, which is also formatted as a Win7 installer. It's a perfect toolbox I can carry in my pocket.

I use Bil2s method of backing up my downloads to an external folder or better yet pointing IE or FF to my chosen location and weed out once a month when new versions of software are released Eg. Flash, Java, CCleaner etc.
