I'm building another computer and in the olden days I just took the Hard Drive from my old computer and put it into new computer and after about 30 clicks of the mouse I was ok. I don't think this is the right way. I've never did a transfer from my home. So I build another computer, put the basic OS, use a transfer cable I will have to buy and I'm not sure about this? Any help please.
if its just music and videos and data, your method of sticking the hard drive in the new box and transferring that way is perfectly fine. or did you want to transfer installed apps and settings?

Well, I would be hesitant to say that you can easily transplant your old Hard drive into a new computer system. The reason being is when the OS is installed, a fair deal of the time, it hardens the OS based on the Motherboard chipset. If the motherboard of the new system differs by a lot, you will have a harder time starting up the system as it is expecting specific hardware.
You can try and do a Windows Repair, but often times than not, I found it will not work and you end up reinstalling the OS due to the major change with the motherboard chipset.
I just used this to "Transfer" my friends old XP machine to his new Win 7 machine and it worked perfectly !!!!!!
