    win 7 document libraries

Why does win 7 document librariey duplicate each file inside, i.e., two pictures, two music and such. Can I delete one? Why are they duplicated?

    Hello Rich,

Could you post a screenshot of this? It may help in determining what may be happening.

    Thank you,

In the left navigation pane, expand the Documents library folder and it's subfolders. When you right click on these duplicate folders, see if you have a Remove location from Library option to click on.

If not, the backup anything that you do not want to lose in these folder to another location to be safe, then delete these duplicate folders.

    Hi smooth1212

The extra folders you see are the shortcut folders (virtual junctions) that are in your My Documents folder. The default library simply lists what is in the Main users' My Documents folder, and the Public Documents folder therefore that's what you see.

The virtual junction shortcuts are in there so that some XP programs will work with W7, just as they did in Vista which has the same virtual junction shortcut folders.
You could lose some from that view possibly by deleting the Public Documents folder from the Library, if it`s not a used location. To add or remove locations from the library, click on the `2 Locations`just under the `Documents Library`and the popup will appear where you can add or remove locations.

    Thanks you both!

Is there a diagram that dipics the different panes. I'm a die hard XP users who skip over Vista completly. Sometimes I feel lost navigating around.

Also, as you have 'Hide protected operating system files' desabled, this will show ALL virtual links.

    You're welcome.

Here's a quick layout of Windows Explorer. :)
