    Admin Rights

    Hello

Just installed Win 7 and using it for the first time, my user account has been crested as an admin but i am trying to edit the hosts file in system32/drivers and it will not allow me to save the edited version stating that it need administrator permission.

like i said i am very new to win 7 and have looked at my account etc but cannot see why it will not allow me to make these changes when my account is an admin account.

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks

Quicky, until a smart member answers. Right click and you should see a run as administrator option. Might work, very new to this myself. You will get great answers here.

    • Copy the hosts file to the desktop
    • Modify it
    • Re-copy the modified one from the desktop back to the folder with the hosts file
    • Confirm the replacement and accept the UAC prompt
    Hope it helps,

Another way is to run notepad, by right clicking and run as administrator, then open the file - edit and seve will work correctly on system files such as the hosts file
