    2 more day (ram-problem)

2 more day, and I will recieve my new SSD, and then I'll install a new 7127 64bit. But I can't figure out why it does not use the available ram?

It seems to just want to use 2 GB, or in some rare chases 2.5 GB) ram, and then it begins to unload other things from memory. Why not use the available ram as disk-cache, .dll's or something else?

I have tried my system wtih 4 GB (2x2GB) and with 6GB (2x2GB + 2x1GB), but it seems the 2 GB limit is about the same, Can it be something I have done wrong when installing it?
Has it something to do with a program or a driver running in 32bit mode?
There seems to absolutely no difference between 4GB and 6GB, disk-cache, or anything else, so what can be wrong?
I want to do a good install once I have my SSD

    Hello Sven,

Check in your BIOS settings to see if you have "Memory Remapping" enabled.

If you do, then see if you have the latest BIOS version installed (flashed) for you motherboard model and revision number? Sometimes this may address the issue.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Just interested ... What does "memory remapping" do?
I don't have this in my BIOS (GIGABYTE DS4 mobo), what else can it be called?

Sorry I can't help you, Sven, but I'm a newbee trying to learn all I can, and therefore I "use" your thread :)

Hello Burgurne, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Not all motherboards will support and have this feature, but the memory remapping feature allows for the segment of system memory that was previously overwritten by the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) configuration space to be remapped above the 4 GB address line. You can read more detailed information about it at these links:

Coding Horror: Dude, Where's My 4 Gigabytes of RAM?

    and

The system memory that is reported in the System Information dialog box in Windows Vista is less than you expect if 4 GB of RAM is installed

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Hello Brink.
Thank you for your answer, but your links is about 32bit Windows7 and I have a 64bit version (see picture taken when I have 4GB ram in PC).
I do have these settings in BIOS, that I don't know about. Maybe it is one of them making the issue?
"No execute memory protect" - Enabled
    "Virtualization Technology" - Enabled
    "HPET support" - Enabled
    "HPET mode" - 64bit

    None of the above.

HPET is 'power management' related for Vista/7.

No execute memory protect is protection against buffer overflow attacks.

Virtualization Tech is, well, for running OS's in a virtual environment.

I'd update the BIOS as suggested, but can see no mention of 'memory remapping' in your boards manual?

I agree with Scaramonga. I would check to make sure that you have the latest BIOS version installed. It may have a update that addresses this issue.

No BIOS update available. Well, there is a beta BIOS, but they warn you to use it with an "everyday" PC.

What do you have showing in System Information and Task Manager (Ctrl+Shfit+Esc) for total RAM?

If you do not see the amount of RAM that you have installed at these locations as well, then also see if reseting the BIOS to default setting may help.

Right now I have 4GB installed, and Task Manager shows this:
    Total: 4094 MB
    Cached: 246
    Available: 2960
    Free: 2770

    Kernel Memory
    Paged: 162
    Nonpaged: 76

It seems as it can see all of the 4Gb, but it just don't want to use it for some reason.

PS: I have tried to Load Default Setting in BIOS to see if that changes anything, but no ...
