Sleep Mode--how do you make it WORK?

Have never had a PC or laptop ever succcessfully go into sleep mode and be able to wake it up again without problems. Ever since Win 95 IIRC. Now using 7 and I would like it to actually WORK.

My keyboard has a sleep button. I hit it, the screen fades to black. About 10 seconds later, it comes right back on. I hit it a 2nd time and the whole PC shuts down.

On my first install of 7, I think it actually did work, it'd go quiet and even stop all the fans. Touch a key and it would come back on. Now I have to reboot it every time.

Anyone know how to make this work?

Sounds like something is keeping you system from sleeping. You can solve this with a sledge hammer..no Im just joking I'm a little bored at work today.
If you have USB devices go into device manager and make sure your USB ports are setup to let the system go into sleep mode.
Also do this for your Network card. If you have something like a torrent going the system might not sleep. You might also want to check your BIOS and make sure the settings are correct there for your machine to sleep.
I have gotten it to work correctly on Windows 7, win2k pro, and XP Pro.

I don't have any torrents running. That's the extent of what you said that I am able to check. I have no clue where to look for all that other stuff. Also I have about 20 entries under USB controller.

I can get it to sleep, but not wake up. That is, the screen lights up and that's about it. Completely frozen. You'd might reconsider wasting to much effort on this issue.

Open up a command prompt in administrator mode using the context menu -> Run as Administrator option, and then type in the following: powercfg -ENERGY
The utility will take a while to generate the report

He means right click on your command prompt window and "Run as Administrator". You also need to open cmd.exe first then do the power -energy so the window does not disappear.

Ok, where is my command prompt so I can right click on it?

It would help if you guys would not assume I have been using Win 7 for years...I just started using this after years with XP. Nothing about this OS is easy to find.

Ok looking at the report It looks like you might need to update you sound card driver that one thing. The other items is your USB mouse did you install the Logitech software ? If you did uninstall it and see if that helps.
