can i give away my old copy of vista

    hello
i have a copy of vista 32bit that i got at walmart some time back. then had mirosoft upgrade it to the 64bit version.
i no longer use vista and a friend still has xp and i want to gave him the vista disk and key.is this legal as long as i'm not using it any more and not charging him for it?
    thanks scrooge

I can't see it being a problem as it's a legit and paid for software. As long as there will be only 1 installation of it on only 1 computer then it should be ok :)

How did you get to Windows 7...did you upgrade your copy of Vista? If so, you technically couldn't continue to use that copy of Vista.

Not sure about this as you said your copy had been upgraded, so the key you have is it for 32 or 64 bit version ?

I also think what's been said is true, since MS had you use the key off your Vista box that key could not be used again for your friend when he installed Vista

You can give him the disc and key with no issue.

If it won't activate, call the number provided and do it that way.
