    O_O Ummmm help???

So, I have a pretty annoying issue (and potentially hazardous.) My laptop won't go to sleep, or shut down. Like, half the time when I put it to sleep, it goes to sleep. The other half, it does NOTHING; the screen goes blank but no sleep mode, and I have to kill the power. Same thing happens when shutting down. And I know that what I'm doing is working for now, but I know it can also be harmful to other hardware and whatnot.
And ideas on how to fix this? Oh, and although my current power setting for the lid close action while on battery is sleep, (on plugged in it's do nothing) it still won't go to sleep when I close the lid. I never had this issue with previous OS installs on my laptop, so I'm not sure what's up with this... So.. help?
(sorry for the incoherency, I am so sick right now I'm barely even conscious.)

Recheck your Power Plan Settings - Change and that they are still set to your desired preferences as they affect sleep and shut down settings.
