Bite em on the back side!

If that don't work poobah can turn on his spigot of hot air!

    Party was excellent.

    My parents came into town.
My wife, parents, sister, nephews and their wives, and grand nephews and nieces all went out to eat.
I was invited, I didn't pay, don't know who did as long as it wasn't me.
Of course they all were graciously thanked.

The problem is: if the policy is they don't sell extended on refurbished, or that HP doesn't even really back refurbs for 1 year (as Linksys doesn't), then no matter who tells you otherwise they may not have authorization to promise it, and ultimately not honor even a written authorization.

I'd be fully convinced before I do anything other than want a refund, and then I'd want to know there is no way they can reneg on the written promise - unless the deal is still worth it completely absent a valid warranty.

Once he gets the sales receipt for the warranty it will include that laptop registered with warranty right then on the store receipt. Serial number and everything.

Actually all they have to do is scan the computer box at the register and it shows all warranties available at check out. It will show price of 1, 2, 3 year warranty if available for that length of time on that product.
If no warranty is shown at the register as an option they do not sell it for that product.

Walmart does the same and so did Circuit City.

It sounds like they have their info mixed up. I used to work for HP briefly, and while I wasn't in the consumer side, I did know a bit about it. HP doesn't offer extended warranties on refurbs...but the retail outlets often do. If they will give you paperwork proving the warranty, I say still buy it. The nice thing about a retail store's warranty is that they will typically just replace the laptop with a comparable model...rather than try to repair or replace the part that's bad. Maybe Sam's Club is different...but as long as you have proof...$40 is a steal.

They have an add on extended warranty available when you register your PC/laptop/printer etc. on line at HP.
I beleive you have 30 days but could be 60 days from registration to buy the extended warranty from HP.

I have bought them twice that way.

A 3 year warranty on Dennis's lappy was under $150. More than Sams by far but available.

That's still buying direct. You misunderstood. You are buying a warranty direct from HP. HP doesn't offer extended warranties on refurbs through resellers.

HP was offering me an extended warranty over the phone yesterday on this refurbished unit. $120.00 for one more year after their factory warranty runs out in May 2011.

We can close this thread out as I am returning the Laptop anyway.
Thank you all for your insight and help.
