could installing a newer build of windows 7 restore my computer & save my files... because I really need those files for work..

maybe some of my files were corrupted... but i have experienced windows 7 for about 3 months and it was working fine ever since.. except yesterday..

try using the windows backup. I'm not currently on my W7 machine, but im sure someone can point you in the right direction.

Well you need to be able to get into the computer in order to use windows backup, unless you are able to do it through the cd/dvd although I don't think you can. I am trying to think of another way to help you out.

If it is truly a problem, take that HDD out of your computer and hook it up to another computer and use that computer to access the broken HDD to receive your files. Just make sure you boot from the working HDD that has windows on it to get the files off the Windows 7 drive.

I know this is a pain, but if the dvd/cd cant fix the problem and you cant get into the operating system i see no other option. Sorry.

One other thing: You try using the windows cd/dvd and in the repair command prompt use "fixmbr" and the "fixboot" commands.

^^^, agreed, or if you have one on hand, use a Linux distro live disc to retrieve your files, and copy ot an external HDD/Flashdrive.
