deleting address bar history from firefox and ie

    Greetings

I've tried highllighting the entries and pressing the delete button and that clears them. But when I close and reopen the browser, they're back. I'd like to permanently delete them without clearing the stored user names and passwords. Firefox 3.6.12 IE 8

    Help!

For Firefox, you can prevent the drop-down list from being created in the first place (my preference):

Tools >> Options >> Privacy --> Location Bar -> "When using the location bar suggest......" Nothing.

In Firefox, press CTRL+SHIFT+DEL and select only the "Browsing & Download History", select the time range and click "Clear Now". You can also set this to happen everytime you close Firefox.
And also as Kasor said, Firefox shows the bookmarked links (they will have the yellow star at the right) in the address bar when you type. This can be removed by removing the bookmarks.
