Hopefully this clears up misunderstanding about this question.
It actually does quite the opposite, and I don't really get the purpose of your post, other than to wave your e-wang around.

Seriously. The context of the thread was that the OP didn't realize the laptop had embedded memory in it. What's the point of nit-picking to this level, other than to belittle someone else?

I guess if we want to nit-pick, I'll state that your comment is false, and SledgeDG is correct. The BIOS is an operating system, but the computer won't move past the POST...which where the BIOS ceases to be the operating system. The BIOS will run enough to politely tell you there's no memory installed. Many laptops won't even go that far, as they will immediately tell you to install memory before it could even attempt the post.

I don't mean to single you out, but we aren't playing Technical Trivial Pursuit here. There's no reason to belittle someone else and muddle the info given at the same time.

    Hi there

I wasn't actually Belittling anybody's thread but just stating SCIENTIFIC FACTS.

The only reason a BIOS will post No RAM is if its programmed to look for any at power on.

A BIOS can contain ANY program the writer cares to program it with.

I'm certainly not playing "Technical tag" or whatever -- but merely attempting to explain that a BIOS CAN contain an OS without any external memory requirements.

The fact that specific PC's will post an error if there is no RAM is NOT an inherent property of all PC's -- but just how that particular BIOS is implemented.

It's also not intended as an insult to attempt to correct what is technically incorrect.

Please read the SPIRIT of the post rather than assume any attempt to correct errors is confrontational.

    Cheers

I'd suggest reading the "spirit" of the thread. You may not have intended it to be belittling, but it came across that way, and wasn't relevant to the OP's question.

I'm not trying to sound like an ass, but if I was the OP, I'd be way more confused after reading your post than I was at the time of the thread start.

If there is no RAM you can't even start up that machine. You'll never make it past POST (Power On Self Test)

Hi there this is FALSE -- the O/P asked whether an OS could be installed without RAM (any OS - not specifically W7).
Since I'm nowhere near perfect I'm always willing to learn. (but I'm not from the Game Boy generation either) So please explain to me, where my statement was wrong?
Fact is: if there is no RAM, you won't make it past POST. Whether you'll get a series of Beeps or a screen message depends on the BIOS itself. But no matter what BIOS you have, without RAM no OS.
I even pointed out a few OS that could be installed with his build in memory.

The rest I just take as given information irrelevant to the case at hand.. DeaconFrost already pointed out what needed to be said so I'll leave it at that.
