    exe's wont start

    Hello,

I recently bought a new gaming rig and was happy with it for about two weeks before I began having problems.

After booting the system up one day I received an error message that windows had a problem and was missing necessary files that would be downloaded the next time I connected to the internet.

I had to wait about another week before I could get it online, and when I did the message disappeared and again had no problems. a few days later problems began again, this time when installing games off discs, I kept receiving CRC errors and was unable to install anything. In addition to this existing games would crash on startup or shortly after.

I got a registry fixer as that is what I read was the main cause of CRC errors (I'm still somewhat computer illiterate but learning fast, sadly), though no matter how many times I repaired the errors I still couldn't install any disc media, and a new issue of not having administrative access nor could I start some executables.

The only other solution given to me was a reinstall. However, I got errors off the install disc when attempting to reinstall, and had to give 3 attempts from booting from the disc to eventually get it to install. 2nd install and things worked okay, until again I started getting CRC errors from discs.

At this point I though it may have been hardware, I took my system to Geek squad who found nothing wrong with my system other then one bad stick of ram. I asked if that could cause all the problems and they said it was likely the cause.

Brought it back home and it began working again, disc media would install and not one crash after that, I haven't yet replaced the ram because I still have a good amount exceeding any requirements.

However I still have a big problem, I can no longer start any executable files or applications. Windows media center, and several web downloaded applications all come up with "X has stopped working, windows is finding a solution" upon opening and will not run regardless of compatibility mode and administrator authorization being on.

This, in addition to me not having admin access to dskchk, and the fact that my system wont recognize any external HD of mine (another problem that surfaced today, and was not solved by providing a letter to the drive) have me baffled. The antivirus program on my system tells me nothing is wrong, and doesn't detect any malware which is the only other answer I could come up with .

Yes that was a long story, but this computer has been proving to be very frustrating to me, and I would like any insight as to how to solve the problem (or problems), so I had to tell the sad story from the beginning.

To anyone that could stand to read all that I thank you, and also anyone who could possibly provide me with some solutions as I am lost.

This sounds like a clean install is in order, considering how many things are currently FUBAR. We could spend a lot of time trying to diagnose each and every error but it sounds like it will just continue to have problems that are all intertwined. Do you have the OS disc to do a clean install?
