    Task Manager missing

    Hello,

When I press CTRL+ALT+DEL, Task Manager is not in the list.
Also when pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC it does not come up.

I tried typing "Task Manager" in search, and when it came up and clicked on it, it says "The Task manager has been disabled by your administrator".... I am the admin on this computer and I don't remember disabling it

I'm wondering how can I check what the problem is?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Got it to work, for some reason something had disabled task manager in the registry, could it have been a virus maybe.

    Hello Z2TT,

Sure sounds like it. You might run a full malware and antivirus scan just to help be safe.

I have a similar problem with a friends HP MINI 110-1118 NR Netbook but only sometimes Taskmanager doesn't show up.
This was after I finally got rid of a NETSKY infection message that popped up when I tried to log in to a blank useless screen with no desktop.
I found a few viruses using Avira's USB boot scan log: ( not all listed )
    - AV8
    - AV9
    - Antivirus Studio 2010

I then deleted the 129 infected locked and or encrypted files listed using Malwarebytes File Assassin while the Netbooks HD was connected externally to another computer and then proceeded to install MBAM on the Netbook and found another 72 infected files and registry entries. This was after I removed the "Debugger" from the registry entry next to "Explorer.exe" while the Registry was loaded as a Hive.

System Restore and about every other system tool comes up with a dialogue box telling me that the service is Disabled by the System Administrator but I'm logged in as an Admin and I've tried it in safe mode as well. Could this be because windows is telling me that I'm logged in as a temporary profile?

Also there is another problem, windows lost it's activation telling me that something in the computer was changed. Fine, but now I can't get the internet working to reactivate even though I'm not worried about activating or connecting to the net till I'm sure the viruses are gone and the damage is repaired.

Can anyone help me gain back control of the computers services?

I gave the laptop back to it's owner after I backed up his files and got the desktop to show up again but I feel bad that he can't make full use of the computer till he can load his profile properly and that in my quest to vanquish the viruses I deactivated the windows.

Also I haven't tracked down a problem that causes a memory error and blue screen when I restart to try to load all Services under the MSConfig Window. So at the moment I think I have it set to load essential services only.

On occasion the desktop still doesn't load and I have to go into taskmanager ( if it's there ) and run explorer.exe even though a few instances of explorer.exe are already running. I usualy terminate the other instances of Explorer.exe first before starting a new one.
