    Operating System Not Listed

    Hi,

I have noticed a problem with my computer I when I open msconfig there is no OS listed in the boot section and I am unable to click on any of the options within that window. I have also checked under start up and recovery and its also not listed in there either.

Has anyone experienced this problem before or does anyone know how I can fix it?

    Many thanks

    are you multibooting?

you can just add it back into the "boot.ini" file.

Windows 7 doesn't use a boot.ini file like XP does. Wizkid, if you can boot into windows 7 OK, I wouldn't sweat it. Otherwise you'll likely have to do a startup repair or something.

Try disabling UAC, see if that makes any difference. Not sure why it would but worth trying. You can disable UAC from msconfig Tools tab, Change UAC Settings.

    Hi,

I can boot into Widows okay. I have turned off UAC.

Is there anyway to get msconfig to show the information again? I've tried a start up repair but it did not fix it

BCD edit might do it, if you can figure out the right command to use.

Looks pretty complicated to me though you may end up worse off if you execute the wrong command. I seem to remember using a simpler third party app but can't remember what it was called or find a link to it. I was dual booting with XP and had to mod my boot menu. That was quit a while ago now and my memory isn't what it used to be.

I think that might actually be the one I used. Thank you for posting the link. I had some , non computer related stuff to do, and didn't have a chance to search for it.
