Windows 7: Windows keep selecting and deselecting themselves

ALRIGHT guys, after many months of having this problem, and many attempts to fixing it, and looking all over the web for answers and receiving negative results, alas! I have I found a solution! Perhaps... lol. Basically, this happened on start-up a lot for me, anything i clicked on whether internet browser would deselect itself a lot to the point of me cursing at my computer and kicking my desk hehe ^-^ And then it eventually would stop for a bit, only doing it once about every 10 minutes or so, and sometimes returning for another rampage doing it like 20 times every minute. So! I looked around basically every site and hope that people come here to find an answer, as it is like the first selection on google when typing in 'windows deselect themselves' or whatever.

Anyyyyyways, to the important part. While this may have been a virus, as i ran a scan with malwarebytes AND spybot, and found quite a bit of stuff on my computer, it didnt fix the initial problem. However, i would advise scanning with them because sometimes it fixes it for some people, or so i heard. But, i had my girlfriend take a lot at my computer (lol <3) and she went into my registry and found a freeze.com virus in there and we deleted it. That made it stop happening for a day, but it slowly returned. I wouldnt suggest going into your registry unless you absolutely know what you're doing. Otherwise, well, from personal experience you will mess something up, EXTREMELY badly... lol

Now, FINALLY on to fixing this darn thing (Hopefully for most people). So ive seen so many fixes already, and if you've tried them all and it still keeps deselecting screens and minimizing your full screen games and stuff, try this. This took me a day to catch this nasty little thing lol. Basically, i had a game in full screen mode and i left my taskmanager open to see the processes that were running. (I figured this out because i read some guy said he ended a task when the deselection happened and it worked for him). So, what i figured out happened was that a process gets ran whenever a window deselects itself, but it takes like 3-5 seconds, and then itll disappear! :O So, basically, i had to catch this process quite fast. While i blame this fast paced 'catching' of the process on my superior gaming reflexes (haha), okay whatever i hate boasting... Anyways, i figured out it was a process called wermgr.exe And its from Windows and it sends solutions or something like that when an error occurs or whatever. IM NOT REALLY SURE. However, i do know that when i turned this off, it fixed it!

So, to turn this darned thing off... I am running on windows 7 x64 so umm, anybody else will have to find it themselves? But it shouldnt be too hard to do Alright, so you can find this in Control Panel>system and security>action center>problem reporting settings. Or, just go to START and type in, "problem reporting settings" and then hit enter. You should get a screen that has "automatically check for solutions..." selected. What you need to do, is turn this off. So, select never check for solutions (Not recommended) and then hit OK. Not really sure why this was the problem, and it may not fix it for everybody, so im sorry if it doesn't :/ But, I really wanted to say this because this happened over and over and so i just wanted to help everybody i could lol.

Well, Good luck guys, i am tired of typing hehe ^-^

THANK YOU!

This saved me from SO much frustration I HAD to register to thank you!
I couldn't even get through a quick email before I would hear 40 chimes then only to notice that the screen has deselected 5 seconds ago. What a snerious pain in the ass.

NEXT BEER IS ON ME!

Dear MrJester,

I had this problem, till now. I'm from the Netherlands and there were no answers for this problem in Dutch. I even called Microsoft but they didn't know how this problem could be fixed.
But, even as Mahoyvan, I HAD to register to thank you, the problem is fixed!

Thank you for your help!

Kind regards,

MvM

Man, I appreciate your post! I was so annoyed with this issue, the only thing that differs from you is I was having a different process runnin in the task manager which was something like werfault~ well, I did your steps and then I started to have a message appear each time sayin "nero home has stopped working", it seems it was the problem all along. When I click close, it appears few second again! I guess i'll just uninstall the application :/

Anyway, thanks a bunch!

Omfg... i've been having this problem for SOOO long now, and no solution worked! Been practically scanning the whole net day and night for this problem to be solved, but none were able to actually get it done.... until i saw your post! You have saved my gaming time alot of hassle! I play active ScarCraft II and CS:GO, and in a tournament, its kinda a killer for your team, in a fight... and you suddenly are in windows again. As stated before here, I HAD to register just to thank you!

Really well done!

Thank You! Thankyouthankyouthankyou

MrJester,

I registered just to show my appreciation. The problem only started this morning, and I was already going squirelly. I have no idea how the others in this thread managed to make it so far without losing their minds. Thank you so much for your solution, it worked in a heartbeat. I wouldn't have even thought to look there!
