Recent Items; Can't get it to turn on.

Recent Items - Turn On or Off

I've tried this above way, doesn't work. Still can't see my recent folders when I right-click the Windows Explorer's shortcut.

Can someone help? Because this so important to me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome,
If that excellent tut did not work, you may want to try a system restore from a point before the problem began.

Welcome to Seven Forums wazzupbeckham. Here's something to try:

    Start> In search box type

    %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations

    and press enter

See if any of the automaticDestinations-ms files are larger in size than the rest of the file, such as files that have file size of 1 MB or more.

Delete the larger files. If you're not worried about saving Jump Lists’ recent items history delete all the automaticDestinations-ms files in the folder. See if the recent items lists will now work. You will obviously need to create some new history before anything will show.

    thanks for the welcome

I've just tried your method. I cut and pasted all the files to my desktop (hope that does the same as deleting them). But it still doesn't work. Do you think I have to wait a while or.... do I need to restart?

PS. I did see 3 files over 1000kb

You'd have to create new history by opening items and such. The things that create "recent items". A restart might be a good idea, you are basically looking to have those large files out of the recent folder as they apparently can prevent recents from working. A Guy

ok. this may seem like a dumb answer....but when i type in the path, it only lets me go as far as this: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\

am i missing a step somewhere where i need to get into the AutomaticDestinations and the CustomDestinations?

i have my hidden files and system files to show...but i can't find them
