bleeding RAM

Hi all,

This is the first time i m posting a request help here.

Anyways i have a pc running windows 7 ultimate 32 bit having intel dual core,1 GB RAM,100 GB HDD and nvidia GE Force 5500 graphics card.

the problem is my RAM is bleeding too much even if i havent opened any programs for instance just booting pc and seeing the desktop,it shows about 80 to 85 % RAM in use.Due to this my pc has become awfully slow and if i try multiple programs well lets say its hardly usable

any help will be appreciated.

Windows 7 will automatically adjust ram use depending on how many applications are open. Im willing to bet if you open an application your ram usage stays about the same, correct? It is perfectly normal for a good bit of your ram to be used when win7 is "doing nothing".

By the way I would seriously consider adding more ram to your machine. 1gig of ram is below what I would consider the absolute bare minimum ram for any machine nowadays. I would get at least one more gig of ram, 2 if you can afford it.

Check www.crucial.com for good reliable and well priced ram. They also have a great scanning tool that will scan your system, tell you what type you have and give you prices on what you can buy.

You dont need help, you need more RAM.

Seriously, do you expect win7 to be running on 1 gb ram? Just win7 running on my computer with no apps open and games running takes up more than a gb.

Thanks for the quick reply.So u mean to say there is nothing i can do other than increasing my RAM from 1 GB to 2 GB or more (by buying RAM ofcourse)???

Well to be honest win7 was working perfectly well on my limited 1 GB RAM till i installed well quite many programs.maybe having just 1.5 GB free in my windows installation drive also has to do with my pc running slow other than low RAM

Hello Dreamer, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I concur with the others. There is nothing you can really do with only 1 GB of RAM other than add more RAM, unless you try to minimize how much you run at once. That will not be easy though with only 1 GB.

Remember, 1GB of RAM is the minimum system requirement for Windows 7. Therefore, expect minimum system performance when you are at that level.

Thanks for all your replies.In hindsight i knew my pc has just bare specs for win7 still meant to get opinion form others.

I would check crucial before you go back to xp. Ram is very inexpensive and chances are you can get another gig for less than $35 shipped. Or check ebay or craigslist if you want it cheaper (with slight risk) Its worth it vs going back to XP!

On a second note...you will have much better system performance with windows 7 on 2gig of ram vs XP on 1 gig. Windows 7 is MUCH better at allocating ram for programs and system use compared to XP.
