Start Menu autohide after 5 seconds

    Hi Everyones,

I've got this problem since yesterday. When i click on start menu button and do nothings, it will autohide after 5 seconds. If i type something in search area, it will display the result and then disappear like one second after that, totally 5 seconds till it autohides the start menu area. Can anyone give me an advice how to fix this? Many thanks in advance.

Right click the taskbar at the bottom and select "Properties" then there will be an option for "Auto hide the task bar" make sure there isnt a tick in that box. then click Ok

your taskbar should now stay up.

    Hi! ano1413, welcome to W7F :)

    Try:

    • Right Click the Taskbar.
    • If you see that the "Lock the Taskbar" is checked, click on it to uncheck it.
    • Then go to "Properties" Taskbar Tab.
    • Under Taskbar appearance second item down, if "Auto-hide the Taskbar" is checked, uncheck it.
    • Then go back, and re-check "Lock the Taskbar". That way you will not make any inadvertent changes to the Taskbar.
    • Click apply, and okay your way out.

sorry for my english. I didn't describe the problem precisely. It didn't autohide taskbar. what i meant was the popup windows above start menu, when i press windows button. Can you reconsider the question once again.

Have you tried a System Restore , choosing a restore point a few days back (before the problem began)?

If that doesn't work, see if the problem exists on another user account. If you don't have another user account, you can create one:

Post back to let us know how it goes.

Edit: Another thought: Have you tried just rebooting your machine? Is the problem still there?

Sometimes abnormal Start Menu behavior can be resolved by left clicking the taskbar and dragging it to the left or right side of the screen.

You could try that, and see if your problem can be duplicated with the taskbar in its new location.
If it works okay there, try dragging it back to the bottom to see if it corrected itself.

@James: After rebooting it works normally for a while, then it begins its abnormality again. But doing a system restore solved the problem, at least so far :). Thank you for your advices.
@Anak: I will try it next time, if the problem is still there. Also thank you for the fine tip :)

Your welcome, hopefully James suggestion will do the trick.

The next item I was going to suggest is to check: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\StartPage
