LAN but no Internet?

Good morning,

Is it possible to have a computer connected to a LAN (via a router/switch) but not connected to the Internet, being that the Internet signal comes via that router/switch?

Thank you very much.

Do you want to turn off internet access for just on computer, or all of them? If All of them, then just unplug the DSL line.

It's a little more complicated for only on computer, but there are several optionas available to you

1)If your network settings are manually configured, you can use a fake gateway and/or DNS servers address. I find that 1.1.1.1 or some other fake TCP/IP address does the trick

2) You can try to use Group Policy to turn it off - Although I must admit I'm not sure which settings need to be configured to do this - SO USE CAUTION!
  1. Click the Start Orb
  2. Type "policy" (without quotes), then click "edit group policy" in the search results list (you may need to respond to a UAC prompt)

Thank you very much. It is only for one computer, but I can't find "edit group policy" in the search results.

Try this:

Go to: Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Local Area Connection > Properties > TCP/IP v4 > Properties:

1. Select the radio button for 'Use the following IP Address', and enter the IP address of your computer.

2. Enter the correct code for the 'Subnet Mask' field.

3. Delete all the information for the 'Default Gateway' field.

4. Delete all the information for the 'Preferred DNS Server' field and the 'Alternate DNS Server' field.

5. "OK" your way out of the properties.

This should leave you with LAN but no internet.

Odd. I'd have thought that Windows 7 Professional would include Group Policy Editor...

If you open Control Panel, and type "policy" (without quotes) in the search box, the "Edit group policy" should appear under "Administratove".
