Filename Extensions and... Win Defender Shield?

    Hello people! Happy New Year!!!

I have a weird issue on Windows 7 6596 with filename extensions!

Unassociated extensions are displayed with a Windows Defender shield.
When I open a file with such extension with an application, the icon of the application appears inside the Windows Defender shield.

I would really apreaciate if anybody could suggest an application I could use to fix filename extension associations! :)

I have attached an image, where the ext is .py and the application is "e texteditor"

    thanks guys!!

Have you tried to do it through Control Panel/Default Programs/Associate a file type? Find the .py extension on the list and click change program.

    Hope that works for you.

    unfortunately nothing changed!

I also tried detaching a reassociating the application, but nada.

I'm sorry, but that is the only idea I have. Maybe someone else has a thought.

When you right click on the puthon file, what are the options that you see? If there is an Open with optnio, select it and tell me what shows under that?

    thank you johngalt,

I have attached a screenshot of what pops up, the blue round icon represents "e texteditor".

There is the issue - it has been associated with 2 different applications, uTorrent and whatever that e thing is.

You'll have to remove the association with uTorrent to make it work with e only - or vice versa.

Also, do you have any idea what the e application actually is? might go back to the same Control Panel item as before and see if it gives you an idea of what that e app is so we can get a little further along in troubleshooting this....
