    Can't Enable Quick Launch?

Hi guys, I'm running Windows 7 Build 7000 and I'm desperately trying to get the Quick Launch toolbar working. I've relied on it quite a bit for several years and it's a bit frustrating not to have it available by default in W7. I've already read the Quick Launch restoration tutorial and tried its various suggestions, but to no avail. Changing the settings in GPEdit.msc, modifying the registry manually and via the regkey -- nothing works. The Quick Launch option simply doesn't show up in the Toolbars menu when I right-click the taskbar.

    Any advice? Thanks a lot!

Hi empireshade welcome to the forum,

This is how I did it, Create a folder name it quick launch and put your shortcuts in it and then go to your taskbar and create new toolbar and select the folder you just created and then position the bar where you want it and right click on it and turn off text and show title and it will behave the same as a normal quick launch bar.

Hello Empireshade, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I have added METHOD THREE to the tutorial to help you out with this.

Quick Launch - Enable or Disable

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Fdsa,

The new METHOD THREE didn't give you a Quick Launch toolbar to use?

Hi empireshade. Welcome to the forum. You may be aware that, in Windows 7, the whole of the taskbar is structured now, as the old Quick Launch bar. I think it is mentioned in Shawn's tutorial.

Hey guys, thanks for all the friendly greetings -- hello to you, too!

I used Mr GRiM's method and it works perfectly! To my delight, I can also just drag new shortcuts onto the toolbar and it behaves as before. I've attached a screenshot that should illustrate just how useful I find the Quick Launch toolbar. In addition, you can also see that I use a similar technique in Firefox. It might look like a bizarre array of icons at first, but now that I'm accustomed to them I can work even faster! Now I just need to figure out how to remove that second 'show desktop' icon at the far right...

    Hello empireshade,

    Welcome to the forums.

The one thing that the new taskbar can't do is to allow you to drag and drop a file on an icon and have that program open that file(s). I do this fairly often with graphics stuff, so have done as you have and created another toolbar.
