Hello Bootlegelf,

Since they are grayed out, you might see if using the tutorial below to enable them may be able to help.

Hi Brink...

There is no 'local group policy editor' in my edition of windows 7. I have home premium.

Scroll down and use METHOD TWO with the REG file downloads instead then.

Downloading the files doesnt work either. Just tried every download and followed the instructions to the letter and no change.

Any other ideas would be most greatful!

Why do you not have any System Restore points available? Did you turn it off? If not, something else is wrong with your system.

To be safe, I would recommend running a thorough antivirus and antimalware scan in case you may have been infected and has caused this. Good free programs to use is Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE).
