Emergency - I locked myself out

    Greeting People,

I accidentally changed my user group to Standard. Now I locked myself out. I can not go back to change my user group, and cannot access "secpol.msc" either. I didn't turn the build-in "Administrator" on either.

How do I get my ID back to Administrator Group?

    It is emergency. Please helps.

    Appreciate for all helps.

Boot to the Recovery Console and do a System Restore to before you made this change.

See here: How to Do a System Restore in Windows 7

Of special interest is the 2nd method:

    METHOD TWO:
Through System Recovery Options at Boot

Note: This will allow you to restore Windows 7 to a earlier restore point with a Windows 7 installation disc from the System Recovery Options screen at bootup. This can be handy if you cannot startup Windows 7.

    Hi Ztruker,

I know that. I can not do it. Ther "Yes" button is disabled (gray out). I can not even run the app Acronis to restore because I DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT.

    Thanks.

If you have Acronis, you should be able to restore via the ATIH boot disk regardless of permissions, as the ATIH boot disk environment is not windows based, nor is it subject to windows security.

If you failed to create a boot disk, you can always download one from your Acronis account. You can also boot from the retail disk, if you have one.
The method ztruker posted (method 2) should work as well. Note that the method he referenced requires booting from your windows install disk.

Hmm, and you can't login as Administrator because it isn't enabled I guess.

All I can suggest is a Repair Install, but wait a bit, see if someone else comes up with a better idea.

Also this: How to Enable the Built-in Administrator Account from WinRE but you will probably have the same problem.

How do we know that this is a legit emergency and you not trying to get
something that probably doesn't belong to you?

That is my home computer. I own it!

I don't understand why you think "I am trying to get something that probably doesn't belong to me.". I come here for helps. If you can help, I appreciate, if you can't, this is OK too. But, please don't insulting people.

    Hi Ztruker,

I tried the Repair Install too. I had to boot up from CD, and then did system restore. But after loaded up. The user ID is still in the standard group.

    Thanks.

    Hi Ztruker,

I got it fix. Actually it is amazing and extremely simple. I checked this link in your post:
How to Enable the Built-in Administrator Account from WinRE

    At the very beginning, in the information box, these words caught my eyes;
Theoretically if you don't have any administrator account,build-in administrator account should be available in safe mode (see also related articles).

That is it. After booting up into safe mode, the Administrator is there.

    I learned something new today.

Thank both of you and James.

    Have a good night!
