Old program just get highlighted in Start Menu again...

these two programs are NOT newly installed, they were installed couple of days ago. They were not highlighted until I use CCleaner to clean hard disk...

Right after using CCleaner to do a hard disk clean, and reboot, then I found 2 or 3 programs get highlighted. These programs were the last few programs I've installed on my computer couple of days ago.

i just tried another Win7 computer. clean up restore points, use built-in clean disk to remove unwanted files... reboot... and i just saw 4 entries in Start Menu get highlighted. These four programs were installed at least 2 weeks ago...

so this kind of "newly installed programs highlight" feature in Win7 is buggy, right?

I guess the start menu must be getting info that a program is newly installed from the installed files and shortcuts. Somehow, disk cleanup is wiping the oldness of the info so that start menu again regards them as new.

The only thing I can suggest is to experiment with the cleanup options in CCleaner and the inbuilt cleaner. You can uncheck them all, then check one by one and watch when the problem returns. Let us know.

Otherwise, if you'd rather not be bothered you can turn off the highlighting completely, as already shown in another post.
