This is probably a bas service of some kind (SVHOST.EXE) is a generic process that "hosts" or "runs" services.

And to make things worse, "Access Violation" is also a very general error message, and usually means that a program has attempted to use memory no longer allocated to it.

You best bet would be to try and diagnose which serve is causing it.
  1. Press <WINDOWS_KEY>+<R> to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type MSCONFIG, and press <ENTER>.
  3. Click the Service tab
  4. Click the Hide all Microsoft Servces check box
  5. Disable any suspect servces that do not belong to your Anti-virus
  6. Click OK to restart the computer
  7. If the error message has gone away, then you know that one (or more) of the services you disable is the culprit. The trick here is to now re-enable each one untill the message comes back. The last one you re-enabled is the culprit and can be permanently turned off

Hi Marty, welcome to the Forums.

svchosts.exe is a generic process used by many services and applications. It looks like one of the services that is set to start-up automatically has some problems.

Here is a thread about svchosts.exe on a microsoft forum. While posters there reference different error codes, there are several proposed solutions. Try them and your problem might go away.

In addition try running sfc /scannow and see if it returns any erros. Also, try event logs - any errors reported there?

Hello, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

Try a Clean Boot procedure, as outlined here: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

When you have worked out the cause, tell us what it was, and we can assist you further.

If disabling all services (and startups) does not do the trick, then come back here right away

Good luck!

Richard
