    Standby or Shutdown

In the heading by Standby i mean Sleep

I use my computer everday, and usally turn it off when i go to bed, however i hate the boot up, so is it good to put your computer to sleep or should i turn it off. Of course i would turn it off, if there was windows update.

Also if you recomend putting it to sleep, is there a way to change to button on the start menu to make the default function sleep like in Vista?

Here is our tutorial on the defult action of start button
    Power Button - Start Menu

It truly makes no difference whether you turn if off or put it to sleep. It is good however to shut the computer and boot at least once or twice a week, so that it can reset itself. Many turn it off every night. I let mine sleep and boot once a week or when I get updates.

I used to let mine go to sleep all the time untill i started havin problems with it. the monitor would go to sleep but the computer wouldnt. but then there was no signal goin to the monitor so i couldnt get it back workin without havin to hold the power till it turned off. apparently it is a problem that a few people get with windows and can ruin your hard drive.

goin on the advice i got here in the fourm and the advice of my tutor in collage i now dont let it go to sleep at all. just let the monitor sleep. this rules out the possibilty of it not wakin up and loosing the data on me hdd.

i just turn it off when im goin to collage or goin out. this gives it all the down time it needs!

then again you not might not encounter this problem so its up to you!

For me, each night I use sleep, do a shutdown every week or so. That said, when I put it to sleep, I usually close out all open programs, and run a full Superantispyware scan first.....only then do I put it to sleep. That, combined with my daily full scan with MSE(now MSE2) and a Hitman scan, has provided a pretty trouble-free system over the past year.
