My first impression about windows 7

I install win7 a months before, I surprised with a new features, graphics, and taskbar arrangement of star menu, before using this OS I am used win vista, and win Xp. winxp is very good OS . but less graphic interface , virus issues , I switch over to win vista , having good graphic but my 2gb laptop runs very slow on that one of my friend suggested me to use win7 . And I really like it. Good speed, new graphic, new features, but I think it’s not perfect OS or super OS. As MS promised on their site, I know it is beta. MS must try to increases its multitasking functionality, with less memory and CPU use. IE and WMP12 having lots of problem. IE never compete with Firefox, WMP 12 having lots trouble. Some of hardware till not support for vista .how can that small companies manage with this new OS .I think we must kill our old machines and buy new one for Microsoft’s new OS there is one my suggestion to Microsoft when you launching new OS you must add a feature that its must satisfy basic need of old system means Os must run from 128 MB ram to unlimited and 10GB hard disk to Unlimited with limited functionality to maximum . so we can save our money and say thanks to MS by heart ,This is my experience about Win7. What about you friends.

I have none of the issues you are talking about. You need to upgrade your system. 128 mb of ram?!!? You are kidding me right. That MAY be possible but really 128 mb ram? Stick with XP if you need to run on such a small amount of resources.

There is no such thing as a perfect or super OS. Small companies do NOT have to upgrade to Vista. If you are a small company running machines with 128 mb memory you got some serious problems mate. Maybe you can use those machines as a cash register or something but then again you would not be running windows 7 for it.

Windows 7 is meant to be a consumer os with multimedia features first and foremost hence the new snazzy ui, the look and feel, dx 11 api etc etc.

Dont install Win7 Ultimate if you want to use it at work use the business edition that might help but seriously those requirements are quite tight. The 10 gb hard drive limit I can agree with but ram? No way.

Just curious, how old of a pc would somebody have to have that only came with 128mb of memory?! IIRC that's around 2000 era pcs. That's 9 years behind the curve, I don't think you will find any modern OS that can run on such low memory, Windows, Mac, or Linux. Even web browsers use more memory than that.

Win 7 will run better on older computers than Vista did. 128MB is pushing it even for Win XP. Turn the computer on and you're out of RAM before it even finishes booting.

You can buy (or build) a new system for cheap these days. A system with 2GB of RAM will run Win7 nicely.

lol I think my dad bought a Micron PC that ran windows 95 and paid 3k for it and it had some ridiculously small amount of ram as well.

My Windows 95 computer came with I think 8MB of memory. My current computer has 8GB of memory. And the hard drive was 1.5GB, and my current computer has over 2TB of storage. Technology moves at a ridiculous rate, which is why I think it's a bad idea to focus so much on keeping old computers in commission within reason. If it's older than 4 yrs old, it's junk anyways. Innovation can't yield to people who refuse to update. Not to mention that old pcs and CRT monitors suck up energy like crazy compared to their modern day cheap replacements.

on my current Win XP install with SP3, RAM usage after Windows starts up is about 113MB. Over the years I have learned the tricks to make it super efficient.

With Win7 x64 I can get it to run around 320MB, which is not too shabby.

I use my system primarily for gaming (and it's rather outdated besides my graphics card) so I like to have as much free resources as possible.

Just to be fair, I do have an Ubuntu install on a very old laptop with 128 mb of RAM, though it does perform kinda sluggishly.
